When Ben Barnes realizes in the middle of the interview that my underlined words in the list of remaining questions are about Eurovision and Twilight, he complains without losing his charm “Is this really the highlight of my career? It’s a bit depressing.”.

Poor guy. Eurovision was a mess that he escaped just in time. “It was two weeks of my life”, he says referring to when, in 2004, he helped his friends in a band called Hyrise, and almost represented Great Britain in the festival and became a member of a boy band.

This week, host William Bibbiani sits down for an extended, off the cuff interview with the dashing leading man Ben Barnes, who stars in the new fantasy thriller Seventh Son opposite Oscar winner Jeff Bridges and Oscar nominee Julianne Moore.

Listen attentively as we grill Ben about what it’s like to be interviewed (irony!), his experiences filming Seventh Son, the origin of Jeff Bridges’ memorable accent, what it’s like having multiple friends up for Oscars in the same year, and his eight-day career in the British boy band Hyrise, which wasn’t nearly as cool as it sounds. In fact, Ben describes the experience as “awful.”
