‘Joepie’ Magazine Scans

Good day everyone!

Big thanks to inemien from BBF LJ Community for scanning this interview from the belgian magazine ‘Joepie’. Here they are:

She has also very kindly translated the interview for us!

Introduction: Who is the most remarkable presence on the scene lately? Ben Barnes’ handsome face on posters of the movie ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’. We have had the chance to look in his gorgeous eyes in NY. Sway with us!

Well, Ben Barnes, where have you been our entire lives?

Mainly on the theatre. I’ve been acting for about 10 years, but this is the first time for me to play a lead role in a film. Before ‘Prince Caspian’ I just couldn’t get a hold of movie parts.

Could that have anything to do with the fact that you look so horrible?

(laughs) Yes, I think that may have been the main cause. Or maybe I am too annoying. There have been long periods when I just couldn’t find a job, and I had to work in bars. Sometimes I wondered what I would do if my acting career would never work out…

Barnes ‘Embarrassed’ By Hunk Status

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes is embarrassed about his newly found heart-throb status – insisting he doesn’t feel comfortable when people view him as a sex symbol.

The 26-year-old shot to fame with the title role in the latest adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ classic novels and he has seen his face adorning promotional posters the world over.

But Barnes insists that although he is grateful for the career boost, he is worried about becoming famous for his good looks and not his acting skills.

He says, “I find it all a bit embarrassing to be honest. All this heart-throb thing makes me look at my shoes. I don’t really know how to respond to it. I suppose it’s quite flattering in a way.

“But when I was shown the poster, I said to a producer in all earnestness, ‘Is that sensible? Because you know no one knows who I am.’

“He said, ‘The book’s called Prince Caspian and we’ve got to put Prince Caspian on the poster. Sorry mate.’ I was a bit worried actually.”

‘Bigga than Ben’ at the EIFF

Hello everyone!

It has been confirmed that Ben (and director Suzie Halewood) will be at the UK Premiere of “Bigga than Ben” at the Edimburgh International Film Festival on June 27th. So, stay tuned as we will be updating on this.

Big thanks to the members of the Ben Barnes Fan LJ Community for the heads up on these articles:

» Narnia star set to break many hearts, says teacher – very interesting article with Ben’s drama teacher and friend Frank Whately.

“He was extremely self confident and articulate and intelligen.”

“Ben was right at the forefront of both acting and producing plays and being very much a driving force behind things.”

“He was extremely popular with the ladies.”

“In fact he is quite serious. He had a huge group of friends at university and they are still very close and very loyal. He is a good friend to people.”

“Not only did he get a first class honours in drama, he won the best student of the year in English Literature, despite only taking it as a minor student.”

» Narnia prince is heir to Orlando Bloom’s throne
– Also, another very interesting article on the rise of Ben into stardom.

And lastly, I have made 850 screen captures (yes, I usually go a little overboard with screencaps) of Ben in “Bigga than Ben”. I highly enjoyed the film and I totally recommend it especially if you’re a fan of his, he did great. Enjoy:

This Charming Prince

Ruth Hessey interviews Ben ‘Prince Caspian’ Barnes, and finds him charming
Ben Barnes is the plebeian name of the dashing gent who plays Prince Caspian, a role he says he approached, with caution. “Particularly in the US where they don’t have princes,” he says smoothly, “the whole prince thing has that ‘Charming’ stigma. I was anxious he didn’t turn into a Hollywood stereotype. He doesn’t swashbuckle in and save the day. He makes mistakes, which make him more interesting.”

Barnes has several years on the English stage behind him, and is set to star as Dorian Gray in the film of the Oscar Wilde story (directed by Oliver Parker) about a beautiful young man who makes a pact with the devil. Barnes appears to be unfazed by the fame that awaits him. “In America Dorian is just like Narnia. Americans have heard of it, but they don’t really know what it means.” It won’t be long before everyone knows what Ben Barnes means – onscreen icecream.
