varjot said:I agree with all of you. The blue eyes make the whole picture seem really cold. (plus the very cold background – even though you can see only little of it)
But I love it.
I mean, Dorian Gray has never been a sweetheart, has he? So it fits, I’d say.And I absolutely LOVE how one part of his face is the drawing – the by now old drawing. It looks so amazing.
Thank you so much for this new picture!

Mandi said:Hmmm seems like they tried to maintain as many of Dorian’s features described in the book as possible. I’m SURE that Ben was contracted to NOT TOUCH, CUT, OR COLOR his hair for Voyage of the Dawn Treader so they couldn’t color Ben’s hair blonde for which I’m eternally greatful.
When I think about it, Ben’s nearly black eyes can be creepy but it’s a mysterious creepy. Blue eyes give him more of the cold-ness that Dorian truly is.

He would be so perfect for Twillight. Oh well….their loss…
I love his dark eyes better but i guess the cold blues are suposed to reflect his cold soul in the movie, so it looks fine! :)

Serena said:Blue eyes?? Ok then. Yes it adds to the coldness of his character but they look out of place on him. Not to mention, if you look at the screencaps of the trailer, his eyes are definitely his natural brown, even in closeups. No blue eyes to be seen anywhere and they would have added those effects before the trailer was released. How do they intend to explain that away I wonder? If he did have blue contacts, they would have to be digitally enhanced ala Orlando Bloom in LOTR who half the time actually had his own natural brown eyes when his character was supposed to have intense blue eyes, simply because a light colored contact lens does not show up at all when placed over a dark iris like he has. In order for it to show up with that intensity without obstructing vision, it has to be digitally enhanced. That’s why they make colored contacts for light eyes and for dark eyes. That’s also why in the behind the scenes of films such as Xmen and the like where characters have colored contacts, they say that they can’t see because in order to have the intensity needed, the paint used obstructs their vision. I’m guessing that whoever designed the poster didn’t actually see the trailer. Lovely poster regardless though.

Serena said:Interestingly even in the trailer, the corrupted painting has his brown-near-black eyes as well.

varjot said:Not only in the trailer (thus the whole movie) … look at the other promotional shots and also posters. His eyes are always pitch black.
Even though it still makes sense that they’re blue there [coldness aso.], it’s still weird.
But I still love it.August 14th, 2009
Serena said:Maybe it’s just the artist’s interpretation? But I wonder why they made this one different from all the rest? We may never know. Usually though in the movies, if you want to portray evil, which Dorian does embody, then the most common tactic is pitch black eyes, which he has everyday thanks to his parents and Mother Nature (they’re actually brown depending on the light). Icy blue eyes give the initial feeling of evil but the characters who have them, not naturally of course, nearly always turn out to the good guys (or maybe just the movies I watch). Dorian certainly does not fit that category.
I do have to say I’m also glad that they decided not to bleach his hair. Not only does it not look good on him (any my sister who is hairdresser agrees) but it’s certainly not required for the character just because it was written that way in the novel. I’ve seen several bad film adaptations and I only recall one that utilized the blonde hair aspect and it was so glaringly out of place, given the actor they chose whom it looked atrocious on, that you couldn’t get past the hair to get into the rest of the story. If they had done the same with Ben, I don’t think I would be able to watch it.

Serena said:Ariel, there hasn’t been any announcement yet for the US. It may end up doing what Easy Virtue did with being released only in select cities a few months after the UK premiere and then straight to dvd a year later from the UK release.
Merie, I agree that is the best poster yet, despite the weird blue eyes that he doesn’t have.

cucurucha said:WOW.. just WOW for the general concept of this poster.. first thing I tought was SEXY AS HELL! OH my Ben looking amazing in the best poster so far, indeed.. Then I noticed the cool effect on the side of his face, the blue eyes O_o that really make him look coold and cruel.. hope it’s just for the poster (maybe it’s just the “lightning”?) because as you all, i’ve seen the trailer A HUNDRED times already, and his eyes (all of him actuallly LOL) appear to be in all his ORIGINAL beauty..
Let’s see what comes next and I just CAN’T WAIT to know when will I’ll be lucky enough to see it in my country (PERÚ), though it’s getting me scared that there’s not date even for USA! T_T Oh lord, just let me see Ben on the big screen again.. and I’ll die happy LMAO! XD

Margie said:OOOH! Love this poster!! Finally perezhilton noticed our gorgeous Ben!! He’s always drooling over R-Patz. Maybe now he’ll post more on Ben…which won’t hurt Ben…perezhilton gets like a MILLION hits per day..this can only HELP the movie get the exposure it needs. And maybe they can find a US distributor….the most important thing for us USA fans!!! Commenting on perez will help as well…he’s (Perez) asking if anyone is interested in watching the film…well, duh!! Unfortunately, Perez is very influential on the internet and the fact that he even posted on Dorian Gray is good…like it or not….

Sarah said:woah! since when does Ben have BLUE eyes! i love the poster though… it’s REALLY creepy how they go from his real face to something that isn’t! Must be the picture of him in the trailer. my friend FREAKED when she saw this trailer =D
WHY oh WHY do they have to put BLUE EYES ON HIS LOVELY FACE?!!! It adds to the coldness of the poster I guess… I am SOOOOOOOOOO GLAD they didn’t bleach his hair but if you type in on google images: Ben Barnes, you can see a MEAN picture of him with BLONDE HAIR and Blue eyes! I haven’t read the book, i didn’t even know there WAS a book! AHHH!!! I AM SO FAR BEHIND WITH THIS SORT OF THING!!!When is the release date for Dorian Grey in New Zealand?

Serena said:Trisha, interesting article. I have difficulty picturing Ben as Edward. Not saying he couldn’t do it though (he would have been much more interesting IMO) and perhaps provided better acting given the subpar material they had to work with. But I’m also glad that he wasn’t, considering how “out of control” the whole Twilight fandom has become. (Bad acting aside, I did like the movie as a guilty pleasure even though I’m still on the fence about the books) Ben seems alot more grounded than that cast and I think the Prince Caspian fame that he was thrown into was overwhelming enough and it wasn’t anywhere near as astronomical as Twilight has become.

Mimi said:AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE LOVING THE BLUE EYES??? lol. Okay, I do love his natural eye color, dark brown that occasionally look black which makes him even more sexier. But the blue eyes are AMAZING!!! It’s very exotic. Like you usually see blue eyes with a blonde haired boy, but on a brunette it’s quite beautiful. *sighs* Ben is beautiful. Can’t wait for Dorian Gray.
And I heard about the Twilight thing. I’m a fan of the books, not the movie. But he IS my Edward, and forever will be. But I’m glad he didn’t get the part, because the movie wasn’t great…but then again, if he did get it there’s a chance he could have made it better. He could of handled the role differently than RPattz. I rather see him as Aro.
August 16th, 2009
Mandi said:Yeah… I knew that he was considered for the role of Edward a long time ago. I think that this was the first time it was made public is all. I remember Ben saying that he didn’t think he could remain looking like he was 17. Although, I’m with Mimi… love the books… didn’t like the movie as much as I wish I would have. I also don’t think that Ben would have handle being mauled by random women on the streets. He’s pretty private. Although, I’m not sure what ANYONE sees in Robert Pattinson… he doesn’t exactly strike me as drop dead gorgeous. I mean, he looks like he never washes his hair… and that’s just… GROSS!

varjot said:You know, I really liked the Twilight books. And yes, I do like the movie [I’m kinda alone with that, ain’t I? XD]
… but. I never knew Ben was considered for the role of Edward [haven’t known him that long ^^] and I am SO happy it’s not him who got that part Oô
Yes, I do love the movie, but Ben deserves better roles than that one … And the thought of seeing him as Edward is even kinda … scary OôAnd Mimi, no, you’re not the only one who likes the blue eyes … ;) I just like the black/dark ones better *g*
August 16th, 2009
Affy-Ann said:Hiya Mimi! You’re not alone with the blue eyes. I love them, too. Ben’s dark eyes are still the best, though!
August 16th, 2009
Affy-Ann said:I’m honestly glad Ben didn’t get to be Edward. Ben values his privacy and I think he’ll have a harder time keeping his life private if girls would keep chasing him around like what they’re doing to Rob. I’m glad Ben can focus on his work and career more without too many people watching his EVERY move. =)

Mimi said:Must agree his brown eyes are much better/beautiful. But I AM SO GLAD THEY DIDN”T DYE HIS HAIR BLONDE!! Now that would have been tragic, I would have mourned in the dark for days, lol.
Also, I agree with Affy-Ann. Ben wld’ve had soooo many fangirls who wld only be crazy about him b/c he’s “Edward.” Which irritates me, when fans only go crazy for a actor b/c of a particular role and not roleS or his acting ability/talent. Plus I would’t want Ben in the public eye 24/7. HOWEVER, I wouldn’t mind all the Vanity Fair or GQ, etc, magazines, because that means more photos of Ben to stare @ lol.
I really hope Ben really gets to bloom in this industry and does very well. I would like to see him land more lead roles, get nominated for awards (excluding razzies), and become a well-known and well-respected actor. Not some Tween obession or media target. (Sry for the long comment lol :) )

Kell said:You are right Mimi. I too would like to see Ben in more roles that will be shown all over. I think is is a very good actor and is learning a lot each time. I like the different roles he is taken, not typecast. As for the role of Edward Cullen, I for one is glad he didn’t get it. Then he would be scared to come to the U.S. too. It would be nice if he would film a movie in my city New Orleans, something like a nice southern gentleman or a vampire. Good city for it. Dream on, but hey it could happen.
August 16th, 2009
Sarah said:I completely agree with you Mimi!!! WHAT DOES ANYONE SEE IN ROBERT PATTINSON? But Ben would be good as a vampire with his very dark eyes and his lovely brown hair *sigh*, I would let HIM bite me,lol, NOT ROBERT PATTINSON!!! I am SOOO GLAD he didn’t get Edward, He would have been good at it but Robert Pattinson sort of fits Edward… hmmm…
WHEN IS ANYONE GOING TO TELL ME WHEN THE RELEASE DATE FOR DORIAN GREY IN NEW ZEALAND IS?????!!!!!!!! I AM DYING TO KNOW!!!!!!!
