Silence In The Square

This morning Ben read two poems at Silence In The Square, an event that marks the two-minute silence of remembrance on Armistice Day in London.

Many thanks once again to Katie for the following video footage:

I’ve also uploaded screen captures of Ben on stage. View those in the gallery.

Just discovered that the Silence in the Square event was streamed live for those who registered in advance. Too bad we didn’t know. However, that must mean that a clip must be available?

Was there anyone from here able to attend this morning? I’d love to know which poems Ben recited. He looks so solemn and lovely reading on the stage.

Thanks for the photos!

thanks for the pictures, Steph! and for the VDT clip too (yay wet Caspian!) ;) i laughed at the part where Caspian recues Lucy and she says “Caspian!!” and he enthusiastically says “Lucy!!” hahaha :) although i didn’t quite catch what he said to Lucy when they were about to be pulled up by that thing?

but anyways….Happy Remembrance Day Ben! (and Happy Veterans Day to anyone from America!) :) i do hope that there will be a video of Ben reading the poems online soon, since i missed it (11am GMT = 5am my time lol)

you know what this makes me wonder about though? i wonder if Ben had any friends/relatives who have fought or are fighting in the war? and i wonder if his family attended the SITS to watch him read??
and lastly, did anyone here on the boards attend the event?

@Elvira — Galene posted in the last post that he read the poems “In Memoriam” by E. A. Mackintosh and “A Listening Post” by R.E Vernede.

i just saw the video on the official site as well, and there was no sound for me either. is that how it’s supposed to be? b/c my volume was on and everything…

“Oh, I so wish I could see the plaaaaaaaay!!! *crying oceans*”
@Helaine — me too…i so know how you feel!! :(

@*Caroline* and @Nicole L. – Yeah, there was no sound for me too.

@Nicole L. – It’s sad, you know. Sometimes I feel like 80 percent of my sentences here or on the forum are “I wish I could” sentences… *still crying oceans*

@Nicole L., thanks, I found the poems right away. They were very touching and made me weep. I wish I could have been in London yesterday to hear Ben read them.

@Galene, thanks for pointing out the video on the Birdsong site, it was quite wonderful and REALLY makes me want to go and see the play. Too bad there was no sound, but I’ll take what I can get.

The Birdsong site video is so beautiful – I found it this afternoon, I hadn’t realised last night that Galene’s link was to that particular piece! It’s beautiful – doesn’t Ben look gorgeous in his false moustache – so “King Caspian” :-)

Now off to watch the Silence in the Square clip … thank you Steph, you are a heroine!

Yeah I thought he did great as well (no surprise there…) but I (have to) take a poetry class and I’m so used to hearing poetry read out poorly, this was a wonderful change!

And he was so sweet during the soundcheck! He didn’t really know what to say, so he was just like “Testing, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, night…. hm… Harry Potter premiere tonight… that’s interesting… there are some large poppies behind you [he meant the decoration]… testing… feeling slightly ridiculous, standing in the middle of Trafalgar Square with nothing to say for myself…” So adorable!
